Honey and Olive Oil Treatment

September 7, 2014

I have mentioned the honey+olive oil treatment in many posts and I will continue to refer to it, so there might as well be a post on it. I have been doing the treatment for over a year and my hair feels smoother, softer with a very nice shine. I have also noted that it gives a reddish-brown tint to my hair.

Honey is a humectant, as it attracts moisture to itself. This is a big plus, since hair needs constant moisture to maintain its elasticity.

Olive oil is well known for its numerous health benefits, including lower risk of blood pressure, heart disease, and cancer.

The treatment can be used as a prewash or a deep conditioner.  I love it because it is easily accessible and any brand of honey/olive oil will do. I get my ingredients from the grocery store. I highly recommend this treatment for dry or damaged hair.

Preparation  & Application
1.  I use about ½cup of honey and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. I add 10 drops of tea tree oil if I am using it as a prewash treatment.
2.  I heat the mixture in the microwave for 30 seconds, swirl it and let it cool for a minute. As usual, I part my hair into 4 and apply it to each section.
3.  I apply the mix to my scalp first; massage it a little, then work my way down the shaft to the ends. I coat the ends really well and roll each section into a bun. The mix is very sticky, so I apply it next to a sink. I use an application bottle, as it is faster with less mess.
4.  I cover my hair with a shower cap and leave the mix in for at least 40mins. If the shower cap is loose, I tie a scarf on it because the heat is necessary to speed up absorption.

After wash, my hair feels very soft and my dry ends are well conditioned 🙂
